Oil on archival paper adhered to canvas.
I've always been drawn to historic still life paintings of fruit and flowers for their sense of quiet richness and drama. I've been feeling compelled to paint a large sumptuous still life overflowing with abundance, slightly indulgent and theatrical. Many, many hours and layers combine to create this piece. This is the first of a few, I think. I was inspired to paint on pieces of paper adhered to the canvas in the style of one of my favourite artists. It created an interesting texture that was wonderful to paint on.
