Cinnamon Rose

I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoyed working on this painting. Cinnamon Rose went through a few iterations and finally settled into her Spice Route regality. The inspiration for her came from a portrait of an African woman painted by my Great Grandmother, which is hanging on my bedroom wall. I'd been wanting to continue with my Spice Route collection and she took this "route". She is shaped by many influences, but mainly my imagined feeling that comes from the sweet smell of spices, the texture of ancient fabrics, the wood and dust in the spice warehouses and the sweat of horses and the salty sea air in the transport of goods. I paint characters but above all I paint a feeling.
