This large 1.5m square painting gives me the shivers. While painting, the name "Ansela van de Caab", kept popping into my head. I had attended a talk at Muratie Wine Estate where I learnt about Ansela. A woman of slave origin in the early Cape who was finally freed at Muratie wine estate. Her story is one of survival and dignity. Muratie has named a bottle of wine in her honour.
