Transition in South Africa - Growth vs Destruction. An award winning piece (see further below)

In this Artwork I tried to portray some of our main South African history and buildings starting with "The Groot Trek" in 1837,

Paul Kruger as President in 1883, H.F Verwoerd (the black and white blocks represent apartheid), B.J. Voster, P.W.Botha and F.W de Klerk (all our previous Prime ministers of SA) with the 1994 TRANSITION IN SA where MANDELA became SA President.

The Voortrekker Monument, The Union Buildings, Squatter camps/informal housing, Children of our Rainbow nation (learning to read and do math) and our cities form the backdrop of this artwork with Thuli Madonsela at the top with her integrity and trust.

During 2015 everything changed dramatically for South Africa. The EFF broke down some monuments and painted them red and anarchy started to flourish. At the bottom of the artwork you will find a reflection of all that is being broken and compromised. Respect, Eskom, Farm murders, Corruption, Leaders, Democracy…

As an artist I am reflecting this sad and heartbreaking turn of events of the downfall of a once beautiful country, South Africa.

During 1992 I walked into the exhibition of the National Quilt festival of SA held in PE. I was just blown away by what I saw and instantly KNEW that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. A wonderful, steep learning curve followed more on traditional and innovative quilting but it soon evolved with my own interpretations towards ARTWORKS, just relying on my intuition as I have no formal art training.

Winning numerous prizes at South African festivals, the most rewarding one was in 2001 when I won a First Prize at a World Quilt Competition in Houston for BEST USE OF COLOUR with my artwork "Magical moments in Germany".

Another absolutely MOST REWARDING PRIZE was WINNING THE ART MASTERS SECTION IN 2015 in Durban with my artwork   "TRANSITION IN SA  - GROWTH versus DESTRUCTION.

Since 2019 I have joined the SA FIBERWORKS GROUP and am working almost fulltime doing Fiber Art. I am also an accredited National Quilt teacher at festivals and have taught in Namibia, Durban, Pretoria, Potchefstroom etc. I recently started teaching on WhatsApp reaching students all over SA and as far as the UK.

I LOVE Visual impact, design, texture, originality, themes and as you can see my artworks all consists of a combination of many techniques unique to my work.
