Annwn is the “Otherworld” in Welsh mythology. After I painted Annwn, I searched for a name that ‘looked' like her. I recognised Annwn as soon as I saw it. Then I read the meaning of the name and a chill crept up my spine. Being part of the “Beyond the Veil” collection there could not have been a more fitting meaning. She is not someone I know. She came to me from the Otherworld.
Most of my paintings have many layers of glazing and scumbling. They are not whipped up in a day. Much thought is given at each stage and changes are often made on a gut feeling. Annwn is one of the most complex paintings in the Beyond the Veil range.
